25 August 2007

Q. What is the difference between shared SSL and private SSL?
A. A shared SSL displays as https//ip/~yourusername/ A private SSL would display as https://www.yourdomain.com in the address bar.

Q. How do I purchase a private SSL from you and what type is it?
A. We sell Comodo 128 bit certificates for $250 a year and include free installation. To purchase an SSL from us contact us with your domain name and we will be in contact with you.

Q. Can you tell me a little about Comodo SSLs?
A. Comodo SSL certificates are trusted by over 99.3% of internet browsers (equal to VeriSign and Thawte certificates). The only difference between one SSL type and another is the browser recognition. You can rest assured the Comodo SSL certificates we our selling have among the highest browser recognition in the industry. To name a few of the browsers: all Internet Explorer 5.00 and above, Netscape 4.x and above, AOL 5 and above and Opera 5 and above and comes pre-installed with all Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 8.5, Mac OS 9.x, Mac OS X operating systems.

Q. I’m going to purchase my own SSL what do I need to know?
A. Our servers are Apache + Mod SSL If you require assistance from us to install it there will be a $50.00 installation fee. We will need both the key and the csr.

Q. What additional costs are there associated with a SSL?
A.  You will also need a dedicated IP which can be purchased by contacting us with your request. A dedicated IP will incur an additional fee of $8.00 per month ($96.00 yearly) to your hosting account.

Q. I have purchased a SSL from you now how do I use it?
A. Once the SSL you have purchased is installed, simply upload files and pages as you normally would.

If your site was http://www.cnn.com, to use the SSL you would add a “s” to the http. The link would now become https://www.cnn.com.

Q. How do I transfer a SSL?
A. Every place that sells SSL’s has a different transfer procedure. You will need to ask the supplier you purchased it from.

Q. What is the path to the free shared SSL?
A. Please contact us for your server shared SSL details.

Q, I have the path to my shared SSL now how do I use it?
A. Simply upload files and pages as you normally would.
After doing so visit them by going to the the shared SSL URL such as https://secure.websitewelcome.com/~yourusername/yourfilename.htm

Q. Why does the free shared SSL have popup warnings?
A. The reason for this is that the shared SSL is not made specifically for your domain, therefore the security certificate does not match your domain.

The only solution is that you can purchase a private SSL certificate from us or elsewhere.
